Sewing Club

Both males and females met every day over Spring Break to sew clothes including pants, shirts and hooded sweat shirts.  This group will continue to meet on weekends to start new projects and continue past projects.

Create a greater understanding and respect for their clothes.  Allow youth to gain skills that may lead to future employment or income.

Sober Youth Dances

Dances are held on Friday nights and promote having fun while sober and drug free.

Youth will feel a greater sense of pride in discovering alternate ways of having fun instead of drinking and doing drugs.  Respect their bodies and what they put into them.  Youth will learn that their actions will effect what decisions their peers make.

Mission Statement

The Friendship House Association of Prince Rupert is an inclusive organization that exists to provide programs and services to the community at large, with an emphasis on the needs of our First Nations People, in the areas of education, culture, health, and recreation.

History

Dr. Bob Elliott, a Minister for the United Church, started the Friendship House in the late 50s.  Dr. Elliott then set up a short stay hostel, a preschool and a thrift store for the communitys First Nations population.  In the early 1960s, he received support to build a facility for Friendship House.  The building was completed in 1963 and continues to offer services and activities out of Fraser Street.
