Project Name:              SOI/ESI Training/Tutorial Project

 

Project Summary:      This is a new UMAYC project. This project which will have 3 programs, each will be 16 weeks long. Three Aboriginal youth will be trained to facilitate the tutorial program. Thirty youth will be tutored for 12 weeks and tested for learning abilities at the beginning of the program, then again at the end, to document improvements and map their abilities in career choices. Information will be shared with educators, community Elders, veterans and agencies that service youth.

 

Anticipated Results: It is expected that through providing this training/tutorial, the youth participants will:

Ø      Become socially and educationally confident, this will have positive impact in their academics and personal life choices.

Ø      Increase self-esteem and become more communicative and motivated to participate in more school and community programs.

Ø      Better grades, by developing specific skills to overcome learning barriers.

Ø      The SOI Tutors will gain valuable training and experience to enhance their employability.
